The GOOD Vs The BAD

Now Let’s Look at some of these feature In depth “The Good and The BAD”

So let’s get a close look at some of the main features of this fin.

The GOOD

Light Weight - They weigh 0.66kg per fin, this was made possible by removing areas of the fins that don’t contribute to trust. Becuase the fins are light it makes them easier and takes less effort to move in the water.a

Reduces Parashuit effect – The foot pocket are perforated, which allows water to drain from the space between your boot and the foot pocket, eliminating excess drag as you swim. This also makes the fins easy to get on and off in the water.

Pivoting Blade – Optimized Pivoting Blade causes the blade to flex at an optimal angle during both the upward and downward strokes, increasing the efficiency of the divers kick while reducing negative trust.

Channel Trust – A clear, soft rubber is used on the foot pocket and on the blade’s Superchannel, a large flexible central panel that helps propel water-flow more efficiently down the fin blade instead of letting it spill over the sides for optimal performance and minimal diver effort.

ABS plus buckles – This allows quick opening and closing of the buckle even when wearing thick neoprene gloves. The double button release prevents the buckle from accidentally opening making it really user friendly.

Comfortable Fit – The combination of softer materials with stiffer materials creates a foot pocket with an extreme comfortable fit while ensuring all the power of the foot is transfer to the blades.

In conclusion… the mares X-Stream is a comfortable, lightweight fin that delivers both stability and a lot of power for minimal effort. Don’t forget, It also looks really great under the water!!

The BAD

Very Pricey fins at $220.00 list price, they are very expensive for a pair of fins. However, there are places where you can get for much less. I will tell you where at the end of this review.

Most People prefer spring straps, rater than those that come with the fins.

Some divers find the fins Pivots and flex too easily, and may take a little while to get use to.

What other Diver are Saying

What Other Diver’s Are Saying about the Mares X-Stream Fins

The feedback on the internet is quite positive to be positive. “Very lightweight”, “very little effort used to get so far”, “I really notice the difference of power compared to my split fins”. However, some divers feel like the fins flex too much and do not perform in strong current. But on the other, some dives feel that fins perform great in the current with their kicking technique. Below you will find some reviews of divers who used the fins.

X-streams are great, to me more thrust, lighter, and more comfortable than the Volvo Power. I always add spring straps makes life so much easier. The Volo Power is still a great fin though, not too many can compare.

by slijoe scuba board

I also got the X-Streams and am very happy with them. I’m a new diver, so I don’t have a lot of experience to compare. Funny thing is that your can really feel the pivoting action in your ankles, so that’s weird at first. But when you continue to kick down, they do give quite some power. I’ve used these fins in 11 dives in the Red Sea where we went diving with a group. I noticed that I had to hold myself down because I was going much too fast compared to the rest of the group using standard rental fins. In a way I felt burdened of being so fast with so little effort, so I think that’s a good thing of these fins.

I actually like the ABS Plus buckles on them although I can imagine being less durable then a spring. I take really good care of my equipment, but if you don’t I can imagine changing them out for springs.

By peterrobbemond scuba board

There is too much flex in these fins for my liking, so instead of propelling you through the water the fin flexes in the center which negates the transition of power from your legs to the fins.

I initially thought that it may have been me, but another DM colleague tried them as well and his opinion was the same.

Think of it like an oar in a boat, it the oar flexes you don’ get the same transition of power to the stroke.

However if you don’t have the strength to push a more resistant force through the water then these may assist you however in my opinion this would stop you developing the technique and strength in the long run.

There are a lot of fins on the market today, but only the Aqua lung Slingshot open heal fins utilizes the aqua lung power band.

These unique silicone power band allows you to customize the amount of trust and effort you put into each kick cycle.

The power band is basically what give these fins trust, they stretch out and store energy at the beginning of each kick and releases it just before the up stroke. This boast of energy is what gives the diver more trust while reducing diver fatigue.

Also, In this quick review of the Aqua lung slingshot fins we are going to see how this fins effectively reduces diver fatigue while giving you more trust , some of the good and bad features of the fin, what other dives who bought dive fins has to say about them, and also where you can find them at a price that won’t put a dent in you pocket.

Notice
Buy the Way, you can get the Aqua lung legend for the best price online Here

If you are from the UK or Europe and would like to buy these fins you can get them Here.

However, if you are from the America click on the link below to get these fins for the best price.

The GOOD Vs The BAD

The Good Vs The BAD

The GOOD

Now let look and some of the the great features that makes the fin one of the best fins on the market today and a great buy.

Power Bands
Pure silicone Power Bands are loaded with energy on the power stroke. They release their energy prior to the upstroke to provide an added boost of power

Instead of wasting your energy, you accumulate it and reclaim it!
Power bands lessen fatigue and add thrust

Gear Shift
3-speed Gear Shift customizes your speed to effort ratio to fit the specific conditions of your dive

Three different settings are available
Easy to shift during the dive, even with gloves

Mid-foot Flex Joint The blade is attached to the foot pocket using two Mid-foot Flex Joint

This takes the strain off of the toes and the top of the ankle. The result is a dramatic improvement in comfort

You can now use the entire foot to power the fin rather than just the front half of the foot

Provides the blade a significantly larger range of motion, often up to 5 times that of a conventional fin

In simple terms if you’re looking for some new fins there is only one option to consider, the amazing new Aqualung Slingshot fins

The BAD

Price is very expensive, they are retailed at a price of about $180. Whoever, there are place online where you can get them for less.

The bands wear out and you have to replace them though. It would be a good Idea to buy extra power band.

What other Diver are Saying

What Other Divers are Saying about the AquaLung Slingshot open heal fins

Good fin tougher than expected

I have now used these fins for two years (over 70 dives). Great fins. Fast and comfortable. The adjustments work. Good in medium current at the 2 or 3 setting. Tougher than anticipated. Just replaced one of the slings. Took two minutes. Strongly recommend you have a spare sling or two in your save a dive kit.

Taken for Leisurepro.com

I’m the proud owner of a pair of slingshots and a brand new diver. When we were getting outfitted for classes I told my LDS that I had a bum ankle and they suggested them. Because I have nothing else to compare them to I can’t say that they are better than my other ones, but what I can say is that with severe tendonitis in my ankle that even walking will aggravate after multiple dives my ankle didn’t bother. The price was a bit much, but I can live with it. The only down side is that I have to be careful not to son behind.

Taken From Scubaboard.com

Lived up to all the rave reviews!

I purchased these fins based on the Scuba Lab reviews from 2010 where they were ranked #2 following the ScubaPro Seawing Nova. It was a last minute purchase, so I relied heavily on reviews left by other seasoned divers. I chose these despite critiques that they were heavy due to reported fragility of the Sea Nova hinge. I just returned from a dive trip and am thrilled I chose these fins. Their weight is not significant, especially once you’re in the water (did not have to change weights on account of the fins). What I did notice was how fast and efficient these fins truly were. They were easy on my joints, fit my booties perfectly not causing numbness at any point in the dive, and made me the most agile and speedy diver under the water. I didn’t use the gear settings, so I am unable to review that feature. Bottom line: You will not be disappointed with these fantastic fins. Between these and my previous ScubaPro fins, I would definitely go with Aqua Lung.

Taken from Leisurepro.com

Have used these fins on last 9 dives to include the 7th when one of the buckle attachments on the fin failed. Currently am using these fins in Africa with one side tied up with string… still working though. Would like an inside scoop on replacement buckles to bring it back up to “issued” status.

The GOOD Vs The BAD

The GOOD VS The BAD

The Good

Now, Lets look at some of the great features and benefits which makes this scuba fin so amazing and a great buy.

Scubapro claims the fins to be more flexible and tougher than you may actually require them to be because they’re made out of tough Monprene making the Seawing Nova practically unbreakable.

The blade of the fin is actually connected by two flexible ‘arms’ that permit it to function harder in water than the diver’s leg typically permits in traditional paddle fins (a persons ankle is only able to bend to a certain point). Because of this a lot of the diver’s power is focused into pushing water backwards instead of pulling a flat plate through the water.

The blade also has up-curved edges that help with the fin’s steady feel within the water. Additionally, it reduces drag on both the upstroke as well as the downstroke.

The foot pocket comes with an expanded heel plate that Scubapro claims enhances power transmission as well as reduces lower leg strain.

Positively buoyant, they’re light-weight and are perfect for when you are on a trip, it weight is only 1lbs., 14 0z. in a size M.

Heavy duty marine grade bungee straps system are designed for quick to put on comfort. Getting this fin off and on is a piece of cake, equally on deck and within the water.

Scubapro’s Seawing Nova, Is ScubaLab Testers Choice for the year of 2010, and it is available today in white as well as black.

The Bad

Pricey, at $189 these fins are very pricey compared to other on the market today. Howver, there are places to get it much cheaper, like from the link below.

Light a buoyant under the water, many diver find them to be very buoyant on the dive and have to make adjustment to their diving styles.

Also, many diver how used the fins states that they don’t perform in stiff currents, but on the other hand there are a few diver’s how do prefer to dive with them in stiff currents.

A few divers reported tearing at the arms, however majority of divers in forum and on the web attest to its durability.

What other Divers are Saying

What other real divers are saying about the Seawing Nova

Great Fins – Happy I Bought Them

I purchased these after reading all the reviews posted on LeisurePro. I used them on four dives in the Florida Keys and was extremely happy with them. They are much lighter than my other fins and are very easy to put on or take off in and out of the water. I was taking photographs and would occassionally fall behind my group and would catch up very quickly with just a few kicks. They excelled in mild to moderate current, are easy to manuever in and were effortless to use. I wear a size 9 bootie and mediums fit well. They are now my favorite fins.

I just had my Seawing Novas out for the first time last month in Curacao. I did 19 dives with them. Overall, I loved them. Super light, the propulsion when needed is amazing. The bungee strap is awesome. Only potential downside is the positive buoyancy.

Taken from Scubaboard.com

Wow its interesting seeing all these durability issues. I have over 100 dives on my pair and they are showing no signs of wear and tear. I do not baby mine at all and if anything really abuse them. I have done giant strides from boats and shore entry’s as well and so far so good. Great pair of fins – just wish I had got the white ones for the low viz here in the lake.

Brilliant!

Used them for the first time yesterday. First dive didnt think they were that impressive, but second and third dive started to love them. You almost feel like your not wearing fins, in fact I kept swimming off on my buddy. Even started dolphin kicking for the fun of it.

The spring strap is awesome and would never go back to the old style. Made it quick and easy to get out of the water and off the platform. Especially important as it was quite rough.

Cant beat the LeisurePro price either
